Justin Williams Injured, Out up to Six Months
No, this isn’t a bad joke.
The Carolina Hurricanes just issued a press release announcing that forward Justin Williams injured himself at a workout this morning. He will need surgery and will be out for a period of four to six months.
RALEIGH, NC—Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that right wing Justin Williams will have surgery this week to repair a torn right Achilles tendon. Williams suffered the injury on Wednesday morning and is expected to be out for four to six months.
More about this as we get it. Looks like training camp just got a lot more interesting for a lot of players.

Just brutal … Justin, in my opinion, is one of the most underrated players in hockey. He’s a brilliant defensive forward and scores the quietest 30 goals a season you’ll ever see. This is a huge, huge blow.

This sucks. Looks like O and Bowman both just got themselves a closer look in camp. I can’t believe we have already lost two people and CAMP hasn’t even started!

Oucchh!! Man when it rains around here, finally, it pours literally:( Brindy’s knees becoming questionable (hate to say this but Steve Yzerman had a similar approach…knees… to retirement) and Williams continues to remain on the IR and we haven’t even dropped the first puck!! So much for preaching to the choir and as the upcoming training camp begins; sure it gets more interesting for some. But the truth is the Canes are loosing depth up front during a period of little or no ice time. That depth will be sorely missed for any late season run into the playoffs and this is not a good start at all. After last season the Canes need a solid start even more.
My confidence in the team has been a bit shaken by WIlly’s achilles so early and I don’t see as much talent in our fill-in forwards. I believe it’s time for me to make an attempt at being a hockey prophet. Where’s Kaberle in all this? Is JR in the free agency kitchen cooking something up? I wouldn’t be surprised if he shakes some extra salary weight through all this…any thoughts out there? I haven’t looked of late to see who’s left looking for a home so late into the summer/fall. Any ideas or peeps willing to speculate on another late signing?

Williams is my favourite Cane, and this is really depressing news to me - almost 2 complete seasons without seeing him play. He is part of the glue that holds the team together, and O’Neill is not the answer.
