  1. Doug Weight

Please don’t insult my intelligence or anyone else’s by your self-pity. We all know that pit in your stomach was the fear you felt of fear of being suspended. Now that you know you won’t be, all you can do is try to justify to anyone who will listen about why it was OK to do what you did. It was legal is all you needed to hear and that pit was gone instantly. Please don’t associate yourself as a former Caniac of this team any longer, you lost that priviledge Saturday night, you are a former Cane player—that’s it. Not all former players are Caniacs only the special former players are. Now go lie with the other dogs and that the Caniacs group you with, I think you know who they are.

  2. Well… I think that at this point it is what it is. None of us like the hit. And regardless of what anyone says… I still believe he could have accomplished his goal (if his goal was to stop a breakaway) by playing the puck and not the man… But it’s now water under the bridge.

But you know… a phone call from Doug Weight to Brandon Sutter to say “hey… I didn’t mean to take your head off out there… it was the heat of the moment… I’m sorry… let me know if you need anything…” would have gone a lot further than him saying to the media “My arms were in like this and he moved his head down….”

I remember in a pre-season game prior to the 05-06 season (stanley cup year) Erik Cole put a hit on some kid who was playing for the Thrashers. It was a devastating hit! The medical staff put the kid on a stretcher and were rolling him off the ice…. and then something amazing happened…. Cole skated up the stretcher right as they got it to the edge of the ice… he took his glove off and grabbed the kids hand and said “I’m sorry… I wasn’t trying to hurt you…” He didn’t look at him and say “hey.. that’s hockey… keep your head up next time…” That would have taken a lot less guts….

Doug Weight is a smart player who rarely hits anyone… he knows as well as any of us that he could have taken the puck away from the kid very easily and the play would have been broken up… and we would all be crying over Joni’s knee instead of Brandon’s head…

    I’m hungry!!!!
