Canes Country Points - Canes at Flyers Preview
There is not much new to preview about this game that we did not talk about before the last game, except for the possibility of Frank Kaberle making a return. If he does play, look for Josef Melichar or Anton Babchuk to take a break in the pressbox.
Tim Gleason may also play, he has been listed as day-to-day. Justin Williams is close, but I doubt he will start. Scott Walker is also doubtful.
The Flyers will look to improve on their six game winning streak while the Canes will be hoping to have a better start and put an end to their three game losing streak.
Chad LaRose has scored goals in three consecutive games.
The game starts at 1PM and will be broadcast locally by FS Carolinas.
_____
Another game and another opportunity to win more points. I don’t have time to get very creative here, so we will do the same thing as before. Earn 10 points for each answer you get right.
- Guess the Hurricane who scores first in the game
- Guess the Hurricane who will register the most hits for the game, (according to the “super stats” on the Carolina Hurricanes website)
- Guess the Hurricane called for the first penalty
Good luck!

Thanks for this game….my kids are getting into this. May have to paint a blue line in the living room as a scrum broke out last game after LaRose scored. Just kidding, but this has added more fun on something we already enjoy.
Eric Staal gets the goal (My 7 year old son calls this one)
LaRose on hits (Chad continues to produce despite getting fewer on ice minutes than many others on this team.) I still wonder what Laviolette is doing here?? Here’s a guy getting it done with fewer minutes and he’s being shorted on ice time? I have to assume the reasoning is that LaRose can’t maintain this type of intensity when he gets more time on ice? Just taking a stab on it. Any takers for this point?
Seidenburg will take the first penalty. He’s logging big minutes and his hit production is down recently, something is going to give. Looking forward to seeing Kaberle play tonight…any word on that yet Bubba?? I lean toward Kaberle on this but not knowing if he will dress at this point, I’m sticking with Seids.
I’m not sure about this game today as the Canes don’t have a good history with matinee games. Also what’s up with Walker?
Bubba-not that I would wish an injury on any more of the Canes but, at the rate this crew is going maybe you add a who leaves the ice hurt first category? Here’s to wishing for all to make it back soon so we can get “consistent”.

Ruutu, Ruutu and Ruutu - for roughing.
That is unless someone gets Corvo steaming mad again… I’d kick him in the head myself before every game if it would make him play that way all the time.
Jonathan - I see you’re going for the fight again. I (sort of) hope you’re right!

No kidding - he keeps screwing up my strategy for CC points… but if he helps us win, I’ll pass up the points more than willingly! Maybe next game I’ll go Dwyer all the way…

Cullen and Eaves with the most hits? Really?
Anyone notice that Giguere is out for today? Wonder if he’ll be back for Sunday. Could be good for us.

Hey Andrea, I agree on the surprise, but them boys played well tonight. I was tickled pink with Cullen, God I hope he is on the way back. He can be the best player on the ice at any given time when he is on. He has always been streaky, but since he got his melon mushed he just hasn’t been the same. That slapper he shot tonight would have knocked many goalies into the goal. He stuffed a wrap around like he was a butcher doing sausage (Stall tried the same thing and got stonedd too, best not try that too many more times, looks like Biron has that shot covered). Eaves was banging like he is supposed to. He’s supposed to be a more talented puck handler than Ruutu and plays the same way. Not gonna hold my breath on that, but was dang nice to see him show up. I liked that line tonight. Didn’t see it coming, but was pleased. Ward had a pretty dang good night. Still not pleased with many aspects and several players. I think that was 2 of the better points they got. Wasn’t an all out 60 minutes, but was closer to a full game. Gonna play these dudes again once a week for a couple weeks, should make for a good series and something to build on. Seid’s was good and Pitkanen was playing his ass off.
Kaberle I hold off on judgemnet it’s his first game back. I think it was a pretty good showing, though.
If these guys could get organized and Corvo would either not crush the dam thing all the way back or wait for somebody to at least cross the red line before he dumps it in. They might be on the edge of finding common ground to build on.
It was an ugly 2, but they earned them both. They leaned heavy on the goalie and he stood up and gave them the shot at the win and they managed.
The ref’s sucked again and I mean all the way around. Easy half dozen non calls that should of been called. That too many men on the ice against the flyers was a ball buster, good call, but a killer for them.
That was worth the beer and time.

BTW,
Gigueier or whatever will be back and I think Hedican is coming “home”.
Ducks squeaked one out today, they should be primed for an asskickin’ I think on Sunday.
Go ‘Canes.

Is anyone else scared about the fact that Williams is coming back WAY way earlier than predicted?

1. Dwyer
2. Cullen and Eaves
3. Wallin
The Canes were only given 10 hits for the game? The scorer in Philadelphia is much tougher than the guy doing the scoring in Raleigh.
10 points each for Cathye, ralring, Selene, Mikey, and Nathan. (If I missed anyone, please let me know).
Much better effort from start to finish today and Cam Ward really stood on his head.
Tokyo, I guess you have to trust the physicians and trainers that they know what they are doing. At least he is getting work with the team in contact situations in practice this time around. Last year I think he tried to come back without any contact in practice.

The trouble I have with it that it’s not like this type of injury is an unknown quantity - it’s something with a very definite timetable. The fact that things are so much rosier all of a sudden just has me scared.

Paladin6 - I think you’re right that Giguere will be back for sunday. But that could also work for us if he’s distracted by whatever he left for. And also I looked up Hiller’s stats and he seems decent himself (he had a shutout tonight). So it really might be better having Giguere back in. For what it’s worth - we’ll just have to wait and see…
Tokyo - Williams started practicing (contact) at the same time as Kaberle did (something like a week ago) so I wouldn’t call it ’sudden’. But certainly unexpectedly early. And here was me thinking that he wouldn’t be back until his bobblehead giveaway night… Anyone know when he might be expected in a game?
